Profile the demographics of a custom area of interest.
Creating a Polygon Study Area
Choosing the Site
First navigate to the desired area on the map, using the search bar at the top or by zooming and panning to the desired area.
- Select the Polygon Study Area icon
from the main toolbar. The cursor will change to a crosshair icon, indicating that you are in drawing mode.
Click on the map to place the first vertex of your polygon.
Continue adding vertices to construct the polygon boundaries.
When you’re happy with the shape of the polygon, you can close it using any of the methods below:
Double click. This will automatically close the polygon using the shortest distance from the last placed vertex to the first vertex you placed.
Click on the original vertex to close off the polygon.
After Choosing Site
Once the polygon construction is completed, the Polygon Study Area dialog box appears.
Name the study area.
Check the Save box to save the study area to your bank of
Saved Study Areas or to a table of your choosing.
Optional: If you have chosen to save your study area, check the 'Share' box to share the study area with other Sitewise users in your organization.
Check the 'Stay on the map tab' box to prevent Sitewise from automatically switching to the profile tab after you click 'Search'. This is useful if you intend to create multiple study areas.
When ready, click Search to profile the study area. Find out more about the profile tab and how to navigate it
here.
Editing your Polygon Study Area
It is possible to edit the polygon's boundaries after creation. Once the study area is profiled, it will appear on the map with a red square in the center of it. Select the red square (polygon centroid), to prompt the study area's Infobox. Click the
icon to enable the editing mode.
Move existing nodes by dragging and dropping them, to change the polygon boundary.
Place new nodes by clicking on the polygon boundary.
When you are done editing, choose Finished from the Study Area Help balloon located at the top-left of the map.
Once you are finished editing, the demographic profile of the study area will be updated to reflect the changes.
