CenterXY

CenterXY, a database developed by ChainXY, provides detailed data on shopping centers and retail nodes in the U.S. and Canada. It tracks over 30,000 sites, focusing on properties with a gross leasable area (GLA) exceeding 50,000 square feet. This data is useful for organizations making informed decisions about site selection, tenant alignment, and market strategies.

Use Cases

Identify shopping centers with over 50,000 sq. ft. of GLA within a potential trade area to assess their ability to drive foot traffic. Large centers nearby may enhance site visibility and support stronger commercial performance.

Methodology

All sites are initially identified using a proprietary clustering algorithm utilizing ChainXY retail location data. Clusters of locations are evaluated to determine if they are part of a Shopping Center or retail node for publication in CenterXY. The data includes shadow anchors* in their shopping centers and readjusts the GLA accordingly to include this. The attributes for each shopping center are sourced and validated by CenterXY’s QA team. They gather this information from various resources, including property and leasing websites.
*A Shadow Anchor is a major retailer that’s situated just outside a Shopping Center’s perimeter.

Attributes

CenterXY’s key attributes include:
  1. GLA
  2. Center Type
  3. # of Floor Levels
  4. Parking
  5. Address Details
  6. Format (Open/Closed)

Limitations

  1. Scope of Coverage: CenterXY focuses on shopping centers with a gross leasable area (GLA) of 50,000 square feet or more, potentially excluding smaller retail nodes or unique local shopping hubs that may still be relevant to certain analysis.
  2. Accuracy of Data Sources: While data is sourced directly from primary channels like retailer websites, inaccuracies or outdated information from those sources may impact the reliability of the dataset.
