Share Map

Share Map

Meet Share Map, a quick and easy way to create and share custom maps with external parties or those that don't license Sitewise within your organization. You can choose an area on the map, add data layers and study areas (e.g. circle or drive time shapes), then send it off in just a few clicks. With a simple email link, the recipient can open and explore the map right in their browser!

What Makes Share Map Great

Share Map enhances collaboration and decision-making by allowing you to easily share customizable maps where recipients can explore the data themselves. Unlike a static map, Share Map invites recipients to interact, zoom, and click around so they get the full experience. You control what they see. By selecting specific areas and data layers, you can tailor the information to meet the needs of your audience, facilitating better communication, more informed decisions, and seamless teamwork. This tool compliments our Layout feature by offering an interactive and dynamic experience that directly updates based on data changes in Sitewise. What the video to see just how easy it is to share and collaborate with Share Map.

Getting Access to Share Map

Share Map is a free tool that can be set up in any Full or Lite Licensed user accounts. Ready to collaborate? Connect with the Sitewise Team for more information!

We take sharing data seriously. By default, Share Map is always set up with ‘Name & Address’ sensitivity so you never have to worry about accidentally sharing sensitive information. Curious about other sensitivity levels? Reach out to the Sitewise Team for more information.

How to Share a Map

For this step-by-step guide, we’ll map all Fast Casual competitors near our Dallas locations, highlighting protected territories for a deeper look. You can also follow along using the video above starting at 1:19 for a live Share Map demo, following the same steps as below.

1. Locate Your Spot

Start by navigating to your area of interest. Use the search bar at the top and pan & zoom until you’re centered right where you want.
The area you can see on the map is what will be shared, but don't worry, you can still make adjustments to your area of interest before you share it.

2. Choose Your Layers

In the Layers panel on the right, check boxes beside the layers you want to share and uncheck the ones you don’t.

3. Share the Map

Click the Mapset icon and then select ‘Share Map’.
You'll notice the right side changes to reveal the Share Map panel and a yellow box appears around the map. Here’s where it all comes together:
  1. Subject: Enter a catchy subject line—it’ll be the first thing recipients see.
  2. Map Description: Give a quick overview of what the map shows.
  3. Recipients: Type in email addresses, separated by commas and no spaces.
  4. Link Expiry: Choose when the link should expire.

Once you’ve confirmed that you understand the shared data (which may be sensitive) will be visible externally, hit ‘Share.’  Within moments, your recipients will get an email with a link to view the map, complete with all the layers and details you set up.

Congratulations! 🎉 You’ve just shared a map using Share Map. Now you’re ready to impress your team, clients, or partners with custom, interactive maps!
