Restaurant Trends is a data provider which tracks over 187,000 locations across 550 Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) and Full-Service restaurant chains in the United States. They offer store-level data, including sales estimates, market performance, building type, drive-thru availability, and store opening dates, giving clients a clear understanding of how individual locations are performing both locally and nationally. 
Restaurant Trends provides each location with a unique market grade and sales variables, which provide insights into how specific locations perform within their market.   

Use Cases

  1. Competitive Insights: Understand how well competitors are performing in terms of sales and market grade. 
  2. Market Potential: Assess how well a location is performing relative to its market, helping to evaluate areas for expansion or investment. 

Limitations

  1. Sales Data: Not all locations have sales data, particularly new stores (data becomes available after about six months). 
  2. Sales Estimates: It's crucial to remember that these sales estimates are still estimates and should be viewed as such.

What is the data coverage?
Restaurant Trends data is available for the United States. Other countries are not currently tracked.   
How often is the data updated?
Restaurant Trends data is typically licensed biannually or annually.   

What does CMG stand for?
Current Market Grade: This is a grade given to a location indicating how well it does compared to other locations within the market.   

What does CNG stand for?
Current National Grade: This is a grade given to a location indicating how well it does compared to other locations across the country.   

Why are some locations missing sales?
Restaurant Trends provides sales data for about 85% of the locations they track in their database, however some locations are too new for Restaurant Trends to collect this information. Typically, the wait time for new store data is at least 6 months.
