StreetLight Traffic

StreetLight Traffic

StreetLight Traffic supplies highly detailed data of traffic flow patterns for over 8 million road segments in the USA and Canada. This data is created using inputs such as connected vehicle data (CVD), location-based services (LBS) trips, the US Census, OpenStreetMap, and real-world traffic counters, etc.

Every road segment tracked is broken down by direction, time of day, and day of the week to provide a complete picture of the traffic patterns for that segment. Three levels of traffic subscriptions are offered for the US and Canada: Hourly, Day-Part, and Annual.

Use Case

  1. Knowing the amount of traffic and traffic direction that a target location receives on different days of the week or times of day.
  2. Easily generate reports to gain a holistic view of traffic patterns for a potential site location.

Methodology

StreetLight’s proprietary data processing engine, Route Science, algorithmically transforms a vast array of data sources to measure vehicle travel patterns. These insights are delivered as analytics through the StreetLight platform.
Hundreds of data sources power the Route Science engine, including GPS data, commercial truck data, land use data, census characteristics, road network attributes, and more.
The data is systematically cleaned, analyzed, and aggregated to generate robust, accurate traffic information based on real-world vehicle movement. To enhance the richness and precision of these insights, Route Science incorporates contextual datasets such as speed limits, bus routes, proximity to parks, and road infrastructure details.
Comprehensive quality assurance is performed at every processing stage to ensure accuracy is embedded throughout, delivering reliable, actionable data.

Limitations

  1. Although StreetLight employs highly tested modelling techniques and utilizes an extensive data set, it is essential to remember that estimates remain estimates and should be interpreted as such.
