Use Cases
- Demographic Trend Analysis: The areas where you do business change over time. A demographic trend analysis with Environics data can show how population, income, and visible minority presence are expected to evolve in your trade areas, helping executives and real estate managers plan effectively.
Targeting Customers: Data from Environics can reveal the customers at one of your stores differ significantly from those at another in terms of demographics. These variations in customer profiles can influence how you manage your stores and communicate with your customers.
Methodology
Environics uses innovative methods that integrate econometric, demographic, and geographic models. It utilizes a variety of data sources, comprising the latest and historical Census data, current economic indicators, post-censal estimates from federal and provincial governments, immigration statistics, and economic data such as building permits which are then brought together at postal code or dissemination area (DA) level. These methods allow users to access variables on population, family structure, household size and type, ethnic diversity, labor force participation, and income.
Top Down, Bottom-Up Approach
This approach is applied both geographically and demographically. Environics begins by modeling variables at the provincial level and then refines them down to lower geographic levels. As they progress, information from lower geographic levels influences higher levels, creating a feedback loop that refines estimates and projections, ensuring data consistency across all geographic levels. Environics uses authoritative external data sources to QA their estimates and ensure accuracy.
Environics data products are built on data from various sources, brought together at postal code or dissemination area (DA) level. This may include census data, postcensal estimates from federal and provincial governments, immigration statistics, economic data, survey data and business-to-business data.
Limitations
Although Environics employs state-of-the-art modeling techniques and utilizes an extensive set of data, it is important to remember that estimates remain estimates and should be interpreted as such.
